Sunday 7th March at Haddington
Squad
Finlay Adams, Matthew Wilson. Dylan Thomson, Sean Fisher, Rory Fotheringham, Alan Cousar, Josh Boulton and James Keenlyside.
The P5’s were away today at Haddington and played two Haddington p5 teams and a Murrayfield Wanderers P5 team. I was a bit concerned how our small 8 man squad would perform today as they have not had a lot of rugby since Christmas due to the weather, But I needn’t have worried the squad put in one of the best performances I have ever seen from them. They were determined when attacking with the ball in hand and showed great patience, this along with some great support play and off loading of the ball provided some well earned tries.
The squad also defended extremely well and were very competitive at the breakdown, maintaining a high level of concentration and this kept the amount of tries they concede throughout the day to a minimum.
The coaches were very proud of the squad today and are really looking forward to the next game

Sunday 7th February at home to Creiff
This Sunday found Dunfermline P5’s hosting Crieff at McKane Park, the two side have met a few times previously and the games are always very well contested as the two sides play a very similar style of rugby. We played two games with training in between games.
Dunfermline P5 squad
Matthew Wilson, Sean Fisher, Alan Cousar, Dylan Thomson, Struan O’Keefe, Rory Fotheringham, James Keenlyside,Nathan Salt, Finlay Adams and Harry Gover.
Dunfermline P5, 5 v Crieff, 0
The game was very physical and heavily contested at the breakdown, this is were Crieff excel and Dunfermline struggled in the first game to secure their own ball at the tackle area, but the Dunfermline players soon found the solution which was to offload the ball earlier. The boys support play was phenomenal today and this is why they scored so many trys a special mention has too be made for the emerging players who are really starting to gel and get involved. Dunfermline’s defence was brilliant today and it was very satisfying to see the boys making some fine tackles and not the shirt pulling that we had seen in some of the recent games. Crieff really couldn’t find a way through Dunfermline’s defence and failed to score any trys in the first game. Final score Dunfermline 5 – Crieff 0.

Dunfermline P5’s, 7 v Crieff, 2
This game was virtually a replay of the first game. Dunfermline’s attacking play was first class with a great support play and some very good running with the ball in hand, it was good to see some strong running with the ball in hand which Crieff really couldn’t defend, there was still a little white line fever in the final couple of meters before the try line and if Dunfermline can learn to use there support more in the last meter or two they will be even harder to beat. Final score Dunfermline 7 – Crieff 2

Sean Fisher 2, Alan Cousar 2, James keenlyside, Dylan Thomson and Matthew Wilson.
I was very proud of the way the squad performed today, they played with a real sense of pride and as a team its a real pleasure to coach them.
This Sunday saw the P5’s take on Kirkcaldy and Perth at Kirkcaldy. The P5’s were split into two teams ,Light Blues and Dark Blues trying a mixture of experience and development we were short handed as we had a no show or two so the boys had to work hard throughout the fixture.
DRFC Light Blue 5 Vs Kirkcaldy 2.
Squad:- Finlay Adams, Alistair Higgins, Sean Fisher,Josh Boulton, Bruce Clark, Rory Fotheringham and Joseph Di Ciacca
First up were the light blues against Kirkcaldy, The light blues had to work hard against a much improved Kirkcaldy side, Dunfermline played a very good attacking game and proved too strong for Kirkcaldy and it wasn’t long before Dunfermline scored their first try, The developing players improved defensively and were putting in some good work when the opposition had the ball, which made it difficult for Kirkcaldy to Score. This was a great team effort by Dunfermline , they still need a lot of work in the tackling department, It would be great if someone form the club development team could come and give some advice one Sunday. Final score Dunfermline 5 – Kirkcaldy 2
Try Scorers:- Josh Boulton, Finlay Adam, Alistair Higgins, Sean Fisher and Bruce Clark
DRFC Dark Blues 8 vs Kirkcaldy 2
Squad:- Alan Cousar, Dylan Thomson, Matthew Wilson, James Keenlyside, Harry Gover and Scott McKenzie.
The Dark Blues were finally unleashed against a developing Kirkcaldy side. The Dark blues were worthy winners and again it was a great team effort with some excellent support play. The Dark Blues could also do with some work in the defensive department. Final score Dunfermline 8 – Kirkcaldy 2
Try Scorers:- Dylan Thomson 5, Scott McKenzie 2, Matthew Wilson1
DRFC Light Blue 3 vs Perth 4,
Squad:- Finlay Adams, Alistair Higgins, Sean Fisher,Josh Boulton, Bruce Clark, Rory Fotheringham and Joseph Di Ciacca
Perth proved to be tougher opposition for the light blues and the game was a very tight affair with both sides having to defend well against some very good defensive play, this resulted in a couple of key injuries for Dunfermline and a sending off for a high tackle which left Dunfermline with five players, Perth were very obliging and both teams continued for the rest of the game with five players. Dunfermline played well and worked hard but unfortunately were defeated by a good Perth side. Final Score Dunfermline 3 – Perth 4.
Try Scorers:- Sean Fisher, Rory Fotheringham and Finlay Adams.
DRFC Dark Blue 7 vs Perth 3.
Squad:- Alan Cousar, Dylan Thomson, Matthew Wilson, James Keenlyside, Harry Gover, Scott McKenzie and Sean Fisher
Next it was the Dark Blues turn to take on Perth. The dark blues were on great form and were too much for Perth, Some excellent running with the ball in hand great support work resulted in the Dark Blues beating Perth for the first time in two seasons. Final Score Dunfermline 7 – Perth 3.

Sunday 13th December at Stewarts Melville
Sunday 29th November 2009 at Livingston
This Sunday the P5’s were away to Livingston, The squad were a bit ring rusty as they had not even seen let alone held a rugby ball in three weeks due to the bad weather we have been experiencing. We had a good warm up trying to get rid of the cobwebs and stop the boys from getting hypothermia.
Squad
Finlay Adams, Dylan Thomson, Matthew Wilson, Sean Fisher, Struan O’Keefe, Nathan Salt, Euan Jones, Harry Gover, Josh Boulton, Scott McKenzie, Rory Fotheringham, Bruce Clark, Alistair Higgins, Joseph Di Ciacci and Alan Cousar
Livingston A 3 v Dunfermline A 10
The warm up had obviously done the trick as Dunfermline got of to flying start and scored very quickly The team were supporting and communicating well this team work made them hard to stop in attack. The team also defended well and Livingston struggled to score. Dunfermline finished worthy winners.
Try Scorers, Sean Fisher 2, Matthew Wilson 4, Finlay Adams 2, Alistair Higgins, Dylan Thomson.
Livingston B 10 v Dunfermline B 11
Next it was the B teams turn. The team are really starting to find their feet and gelling well together there was some great play in attack and some lovely running with the ball in hand. The team let themselves down defensively and were a little hesitant when it came to tackling this is something we are working on and the team are showing signs of improvement.
Try Scorers, Joseph Di Ciacci 4, Harry Gover 3, Alistair Higgins 2, Scott McKenzie, Rory Fotheringham.
Livingston A 5 v Dunfermline AB 10
For the last game we ran out a mixed team from both the A’s and B’s. Again Dunfermline worked extremely well together and are now playing as a team and not a bunch of individuals this makes them very hard to beat and again the team were worthy winners
Try Scorers, Sean Fisher 3, Alistair Higgins 2 , Dylan Thomson 2, Finlay Adams 2, Josh Boulton,
All in all a good result and lots for coaches and parents to be proud off well done.

Dunfermline Antelopes attended the Dunfermline Mini Rugby Tournament at McKane Park this week. The P5 section was contested by six teams, Perth, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Crieff, Dunfermline Antelopes and Dunfermline Buffalo. The teams competed in a league system and the team with the most points would be the victors.
Dunfermline A Squad:- Finlay Adams, Joshua Boulton., Alan Cousar, Sean Fisher, Alistair Higgins, James Keenlyside, Dylan Thomson and Matthew Wilson
Dunfermline A 4 v Crieff 2
The first game was against Crieff who have proved to be stiff competition in the past and today was no different. Dunfermline played a great team game and supported each other well and soon crossed the Crieff line for the first try of the game. Dunfermline were slow to get their defensive game going and Crieff soon equalised. This caused Dunfermline to up their game and sort out the tackling and finally ended the game victorious 4 tries to 2. (Try Scorers: Dylan Thomson 2, Finlay Adams 2)
Dunfermline A 7 v Dunfermline B 1
Next up it was Dunfermline B this was a difficult game to play as they were playing against their own team mates. Once the game started all thoughts of friends and team mates were soon forgotten and Dunfermline A soon stamped their authority on the game and ran in worthy winners. (Try Scorers Alan Cousar 3, Finlay Adams 2, Matthew Wilson and James Keenlyside).
Dunfermline A 6 v Kirkcaldy 1
Straight after their win over Dunfermline B the team had to face up to Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline A were now in full swing and were attacking and defending very well. The support play was excellent and Dunfermline were also passing well. Kirkcaldy struggled to keep up and Dunfermline cruised home for their third Victory. (Try Scorers: Finlay Adams 2, Joshua Boulton 2, Matthew Wilson and Alan Cousar).
Dunfermline A 9 v Glenrothes 0
The Last game was crucial if Dunfermline A were to win the tournament. The team were well aware that Perth had won all their games and that it now came down to try difference. The game was a tense affair but Dunfermline A were resolute in their task and piled on the pressure with such an intensity I had never seen before. The tries came thick and fast, but more important they kept a clean sheet. (Try Scorers: Dylan Thomson 5, Sean Fisher 3, Matthew Wilson).
Once the final whistle had gone there was the nail biting wait while the Perth and Dunfermline tries were counted. The final tally was Dunfermline ‘A’ 26 tries, Perth 21 Tries.
Dunfermline had won the tournament by 5 tries.

Dunfermline P5 Buffalos at the Dunfermline tournament
The P5 Buffalo’s put up a sterling performance for their first home tournament.
With a squad of 8 this was an incredible hardworking performance, with every member of the squad participating and giving their all in each and every one of the games. Nathan Captained the Team and lead from the front with some great tackling and support play.
Three close games against Kirkcaldy, Creiff and Perth saw eight trys earned through some excellent support work and great running. Nathan, Kelly, Struan, Bruce, Scott, Rory, Joseph and Harry all played their part in the trys.
Dunfermline A was always going to be the hardest game of the tournament. The Buffalo’s dug deep under the pressure and persevered with the reward of a try tucked the corner in the last minute.
This was a promising start to the P5 Buffalo’s season with the team showing great potential for development over the year.
